Issue #5, November 2021

Dear coffee lover,
It's been a hard year. Across Australia, businesses have been hit massively by lockdowns & border closures, families have been kept apart, our wellbeing has been tested like never before. This #BlackFriday (November 26th), we want to shift the focus to those who's mental health, in particular, has been hit hardest by the pandemic. And shine a light on one of the charities that have been there to support Australians throughout - Lifeline.
Lifeline are a national charity providing all Australians experiencing emotional distress with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services. They are fully committed to empowering Australians to be suicide-safe through connection, compassion and hope.
Connection, compassion and hope. Three values our business is built on. Whether it's our amazing cafe partners, roastery staff or retail customers, we do our best to approach every situation with open arms and kindness in our hearts.
Last year we offered customers of our online store a 25% discount across our whole range of coffee beans for 24 hours. This year, we're proposing a 0% discount. That's right, for #BlackFriday we're asking you to pay full price for your coffee. We will take that extra 25% difference and donate it to Lifeline. By paying full price, you will help Lifeline continue to provide amazing support to those that need it most.
This #BlackFriday, let's work together to shine a light on connection, compassion and hope.

That's right, our canned cold brew is back in stock just in time for summer. Miss out on the last batch? Make sure you order yours from the button below today 👇

A "Cherry Picked" Coffee

In recent years, Panama has produced some of the most sought-after, and expensive, specialty coffees in the world. The Hartmann Estate is a third-generation family owned farm renowned for producing amazing specialty coffees.

The Hartmann family patriarch, Alois St. Hartmann, left Czechoslovakia for the United States when the First World War broke out in 1914. He then purchased land in Chiriqui, Panama to build a house and plant the original coffee trees on the estate. Three generations, and over 100 years later, five members of the Hartmann family now run the farm, growing stunning specialty-grade coffees, as well as experimenting with processing methods like the ‘Black Winey’ natural processing.

The Black Winey process involves picking the cherries when they are darker & riper than usual, and then sun-dried using raised beds. This process gives the drying cherries their black colour, and refined complex sweetness & acidity.

All of this results in a beautifully balanced coffee with a distinctive fruity sweetness.

The Fix: a Loosely Coffee Related Playlist

Summer is just around the corner, Australia have won the T20 cricket world cup and I just made a truly exceptional affogato (Yes, I know it's 7.45am on a Wednesday, but sometimes an affogato is just needed). This month's playlist adopts that spirit and pumps it, soulfully, into your ears. You're welcome. As always, we love hearing your suggestions for next month. Just reply to this email with your recommendations and i'll add them to the playlist as we go!
